A circuit breaker is a safety switch built into the electrical system of your house.  Simply put, it is a safety switch that will stop electrical flow to a household component before that component can fry itself and start an electrical fire.

A circuit breaker shuts off the flow of electricity (or “trips”) due to a surge in the circuit, which can damage the air conditioner and even start a fire.
